We are a group of individuals in which every one of us has been touched in some way by the phenomenon of addiction - professionally, personally or in a relationship with a very close person, and has realized how easy and subtle it is to fall into addiction and how difficult, if not impossible, it is to get out of it without the help of others.

At the beginning of the foundation of the Foundation for Červený Dvůr, the idea was to support people who have successfully undergone treatment but desperately need help in the initial months, for example, with paying the first rent or acquiring the necessary equipment. While this may seem like a small amount of help, it can be crucial for some.

We would like to thank the director of the Psychiatric Hospital Červený Dvůr, MUDr. Jiří Dvořáček, for giving us the idea of support and integration into a meaningful life rhythm and for his dedication and support of our activities.

The psychiatric hospital Červený Dvůr is an inpatient facility for the treatment of addiction. We strive to return addicted people back to life as much as possible. Many patients face difficult obstacles in finding stable housing and employment after discharge from the treatment centre - sometimes this obstacle is lack of financial resources. A new foundation dedicated to financially supporting patients during this crucial period after treatment is therefore an ideal partner for the Červený Dvůr Psychiatric Hospital. Cooperation with the fund could offer patients in particular:

• Financial assistance to cover basic needs: housing, food, clothing and transport are essential for a stable life. The Foundation could provide patients with financial support to cover these basic needs, helping them to focus on recovery and finding work.
• Job search support: the Foundation could provide patients with career counselling, job search assistance and, where appropriate, financial support for retraining or vocational training.
• Reducing the risk of relapse: Stable housing, employment and support networks have been shown to reduce the risk of relapse for patients with mental disorders and addictions. Foundation support could therefore lead to long-term improvements in their mental health and quality of life.

Working with the Foundation would thus provide the Červený Dvůr Psychiatric Hospital with the opportunity to offer comprehensive support to patients and facilitate their pathway to sustained recovery and a fulfilling life in the community. We believe that joining forces with the Foundation could lead to a lasting and positive impact on the lives of patients and strengthen their chances of successful reintegration into society.

In 2011 I was in a traffic accident and a tram ran over both my legs. I was left with 20 cm of my right leg and my left leg was completely amputated. During this difficult time, my girlfriend broke up with me, with whom I have now a 15-year-old son. I moved away, closed myself in and started drinking alcohol a lot. My life completely collapsed. Still, I found new strength in myself and tried to manage as many things as possible on my own. For example, I made a wheelchair-accessible walkway in my home, and I am taking care of the forrest where I'm pruning the woods with a friend. I started to come back to people and gradually decided to solve the problem with alcohol. I am undergoing treatment at the Červený Dvůr Psychiatric hospital, and I am regaining my vigour to pursue hobbies, such as fishing and playing wheelchair floorball.

I need a new wheelchair, the current one is no longer suitable. A new wheelchair will be better and will allow me to live an almost fully active life. It will also have different wheels to the basic equipment, so it doesn't get stuck on stones, etc. The wheelchair is not fully covered by health insurance and the extra cost is beyond my current financial means.

How we helped: we will pay the 8 000 CZK co-payment for the wheelchair.

I am a nurse and I have undergone addiction treatment twice, most recently in late 2023. I have 2 children who have been in transitional foster care for the last 4 years. Since my last treatment, I work in a nursing home and live in sheltered housing. I have a promise from the court that I would get my children back into my care once suitable housing is secured. Thanks to the help of the Charity, I have now been allocated a city flat. I have applied to the Foundation for financial help with the rent. I am paying off my debts from my salary and would be very grateful for any help.

How can we help: We will pay 15,000 CZK, that's two full months' rent.
